Kilmovee para cyclist Jerry Towey has confirmed he will be joining Western Lakes for 2016.  Jerry has pulled some big results both in domestic able bodied races & at International Para Cycling events.

Jerry was holding onto a top 10 spot in the Mayo League but a busy workload targeting International events saw him miss some stages & slip out of contention.  Jerry has missed the podium at three International events in Germany, Spain both road events & Manchester on the track.  Also twice in Connacht events & also the Western Lakes Club championships taking fourth in all six events.  “It wasn’t meant to happen for me this year” says Jerry “even the Connacht Championships M40 that I did get a bronze I missed the presentation as I was in Switzerland training. I got on the podium alright in the Nationals but my target was points for Rio & I’m there or there about’s. I still have a roll in Ballaghaderreen CC & they have been great with me for support but I needed to be in the environment of a racing club & Western Lakes more or less adopted me over the years”.

Jerry attended a two week Velodrome training camp held in the World Cycling Center in Switzerland at the behest of the World Governing body of Cycling the UCI prior to the Manchester Track International in mid November where Jerry was in a ride off for the bronze missing the podium by .332 of a second in a 4KM pursuit.

I’m sure that I’m not alone in wishing Jerry continued success and look forward to seeing him represent Ireland (and more importantly Kilmovee Parish) in Rio next year.
