Following the huge success of the Kilmovee – Winter Lecture Series in the Thatch Cottage we’re pleased to announce the new Spring Lecture Series.

Monday February 29th – Placenames of Mayo by Fiachra Mc Gowan. Fiachra has done the most comprehensive atlas of the origins of Irish placenames and townlands to date.

Wednesday 6th April – The Medicinal uses and Folklore of Bog Plants by Lorna Elms. Education Officer of the Museum of Country Life, Turlough.

Wednesday 4th May – Grandpa the Sniper by Frank Shouldice. Frank’s grandfafther and his brother, both from Ballaghaderreen were snipers in the Easter Rising and were captured and sent to Frongach Internment Camp.

All lectures will follow the same format as before, starting at 8pm.
