Kilmovee Parish Bulletin – 26th June

This poem was written by the poet Patrick Kavanagh for a neighbour who was being ordained a priest. It’s lovely to think he used his talent – his gift, to offer support and advice to the newly ordained in this way.

He seems to be encouraging him to have belief in the “plough” and the horse and not to feel he has to keep a tight grip of the reins. The horse has been in this field before. He knows what has to be done.

There’s a good line too about not being fearful of what people say but rather believing in what he has to say. To have this belief will call on him, at times, to say what might not be welcome but, since it’s true, has to be said.
