Jesus uses the phrase in today’s Gospel that it is “easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Heaven”.
It’s worth noting he doesn’t say it’s impossible for a rich person to enter God’s Kingdom, rather it’s not easy.
Not easy because the wealthy person might all too easily feel that he or she has all that is needed for here and now and as far into the future as can be seen.
This, we know, is not always the case.
The wealthy person who uses his or her wealth to support the family, to support the self and then to support the broader community, especially those in need, is lessening the “hump” that money and wealth can, all too easily become, and making that small opening seem less of a challenge.
