Kilmovee Parish Bulletin – 14th August

This photograph taken on January 30th 1972, recalls a violent time in Irish History. It also is a reminder of the power of peace in the midst of this same conflict.

Fr Eddie Daly, walked with his people and through hatred that day as he waved a white handkerchief for peace, that the wounded might be offered assistance and the frightened be led to safety. His courage was certain and his symbolic gesture recognised for what it was. A passage was cleared and it’s taken ever since as a given that lives were saved…
