This Sunday Bishop Brendan will return to his native diocese of Galway to be installed as Bishop of the Diocese.
The ceremony takes place at 3pm in Galway Cathedral so it might be good to remember him in prayer at this time. I was in the Presbytery in Ballaghaderreen the day he arrived for the announcement of his appointment as Bishop of Achonry.
I recall meeting him in the hallway there, never having met him before and having no real idea of who he was or what he’d be like.
I took this photo of him, standing alongside Bishop Flynn, R.I.P. I took it to put on our Diocesan Website alongside the announcement of his appointment and the photo has been used many times since then. The man in the photo is now a decade older and has spent those years in our midst.
During those years, personally, I encountered a kind and supportive man who was encouraging and appreciative. He had a kindness about him that found its voice, not least, in his care for those with additional needs and a faith that spoke to us from a place of sincerity.
Today we pray God’s continued blessing on him as he embarks on another chapter of his ministry. May he know this day, and always, the support of our prayer and the depth of our gratitude.
Ad multos annos.
