The pairing of Paul Phillips & Jerry Towey have taken the Overall prize in the Ireland West Dualthon series over events held in Claremorris, Tuam, Ballinrobe, Cong & Castlebar in the relay section.  The events consisted mostly of a 5k run with a 20k cycle followed by a 3k run.

Although Towey was targeted by quite a number of runners for his Time Trial abilities the Aughadeffin man was adamant to have someone from Kilmovee as a runner just to get them into the business end of things at these events. Urlaurs Paul Phillips responded to the request & on Good Friday both men will be attending the award presentation at Marrey Bikes Ballinrobe with none other than Tour de France winner Stephen Roche doing the honors.

Towey clocked the fastest bike at all the events with the exception of the first one where he was nipped by 15 seconds.  Coupled with great team work it saw the two men lightning fast in transition saving precious seconds.

Speaking afterwards Paul Phillips said “since the last event in Cong three weeks ago Jerry was in a heavy collision in a race in Dundalk which saw him removed by ambulance to Hospital with a bleed to his brain, Broken nose & Fractured cheek bone, then his Father Tony passed away last week so I was surprised to get the call to say “we are going to finish this” Thursday.  I split better times today than I ever done in my life on the run & I’ve learned a lot.
