As we head towards the end of the second week after Kilmovee CoderDojo was launched I thought I’d let you know the progress so far.
I have already spent many hours reading up, answering emails, posting to the facebook page and lots of background setting up and I’m pleased to announce that Kilmovee CoderDojo is now listed and verified on the CoderDojo website, you can now register here as a Ninja (member), Parent/Guardian or Mentor. I have also started to make contact with some businesses in Ballaghaderreen looking for assistance with set up costs. I’d like to thanks Duffy’s SuperValu for their quick response.
Some of the asked questions I’ve received over the last couple of weeks:
What is CoderDojo?
In short, CoderDojo is a fun and social space where young people, between 7 and 17, can go to explore technology together and get advice and support from skilled mentors. In Dojos young people get the opportunity to make apps, websites, games, play with robotics and more!
What cost is there for joining?
None – CoderDojo is completely free to attend
What age can my child join?
Currently we are taking registrations for children aged 7 – 17
Where can I register?
I don’t live in Kilmovee, can I register my child?
Yes, all are welcome.
What will my child need?
Themselves & a laptop (power cord/charger)
What safeguards are in place?
All mentors/volunteers will be Garda vetted at the earliest opportunity and Kilmovee CoderDojo will be run following the CoderDojo’s recommended practice.
My child loves computers but doesn’t know code, can they still register?
Absolutely, there will be mentors on hand to walk them through the basics and as time goes by they in turn will share their knowledge with others.
In the next couple of weeks I hope to hold a get together for all who are interested, you will need to register to get ‘invites’ to the sessions once they start up.
I would like to form a small committee to assist with finding funding, accounts, social media, press and correspondences etc.
Meet with the potential Mentors to discuss the sessions and the ‘belt’ & ‘badges’ awards and their availability.
If all of above can be achieved by very early February the first Kilmovee CoderDojo session should take place towards the end of February or very early March.
Kid’s are you interested in learning to make cool stuff?
Companies, Business People & Generous Individuals:
Kilmovee CoderDojo will need funding, as mentioned above this is FREE but we’ll need bits and pieces to assist us and give us an identity, allow us to offer rewards for achievements (our ‘belts’ scheme), to be able to offer tea’s & coffee’s to parents or a juice to our Ninja’s (and even maybe a biscuit) and some techie stuff too (extension leads, memory sticks, projector etc.). If you can help financially open the form below and make a donation, if you’re interested in helping us out in kind please email email@example.com[symple_toggle title=”Sponsor Us” state=”closed”][gravityform id=”34″ title=”false” description=”false”][/symple_toggle]
I am looking forward to welcoming new Ninja’s, parents, volunteers, mentors and partners on board the next leg of this exciting new initiative. If you have any questions or require more information don’t hesitate to get in touch firstname.lastname@example.org .
